A married couple dies from complications of COVID-19, two minutes apart

A husband and wife from the American state of Texas died in two minutes from complications after contracting COVID-19, reports the Daily Star.

Paul Blackwell, 61, and Mary Blackwell, 65, who worked as teachers, contracted the new coronavirus in early December and underwent tests for the disease. Soon, they needed mechanical ventilation to breathe.

The couple was placed in intensive care, and the hospital staff warned their relatives that patients are unlikely to survive.

The couple’s son Christopher Blackwell, along with other family members, made the difficult decision to disconnect them from the life support system. On Sunday, December 13th, the doctors moved their beds together for the last time. They locked their fingers, and the couple died minutes apart, holding hands.

“I’ve never seen anything like this before, and it’s even hard for me to describe in words what I saw. They once vowed to be together until death do them part. And so it happened,” said Christopher.

It is not known exactly how the couple contracted COVID-19. Both spouses worked until they got sick. They were aware of the virus and even postponed family meetings with their five children all summer due to the threat of infection.

Earlier it was reported that the husband and wife from the US city of Jackson, state Michigan, married for 47 years, contracted COVID-19 and died on the same day. Their deaths were recorded at the same time.
