New Android smartphones will receive operating system updates for up to four years, reports Android Police.
The publication refers to the statement Google , experts of which noted that future smartphones based on Qualcomm processors will support extended update times. The corporation said the phones will receive Android updates for three years and security updates for four years. This was achieved thanks to the optimization of Qualcomm chips.
The description of the innovation specifies that the Android three-year update policy will apply to smartphones based on Qualcomm Snapdargon 888 or newer processors. Also, the devices must support the technology for deploying Project Treble updates. In addition, the actual lifespan of smartphones will depend on the desire of specific manufacturers to release updates for a particular device.
The list of manufacturers that will support the new technology from Google and Qualcomm has not been disclosed. Reporters speculated that the four-year update plan would definitely apply to the flagship devices of the Google Pixel series.
Also, the authors believe that Samsung will join the new program. In August, representatives of the Korean corporation announced that most of the brand’s new smartphones will receive updates Android is three years old. First of all, updates will be released for the current flagships – Galaxy Note20 and Galaxy Note20 Ultra.
