The Belarusian authorities will begin to deprive the republic of citizenship for extremism or “causing grievous harm to the interests of the state.” This is stated in the amendments to the law on citizenship, reports ” Sputnik Belarus”.
The grounds for deprivation of a passport will be a court decision or a verdict of an international tribunal confirming the participation of the accused in terrorist activities.
Such activity will be considered the commission of crimes provided for by a number of articles of the criminal code, including mercenarism, the creation of an illegal armed group, conspiracy and other actions to seize power.
The amendments should enter into force on June 18, 2021. They concern foreigners who have undergone naturalization in Belarus. Minors, as well as those who acquired Belarusian citizenship by birth and have never left it, cannot be deprived of their passports.
