Huawei has unveiled a beta version of its operating system for smartphones, according to Huawei Central.
The site HarmonyOS provides information for developers of smartphone software. In particular, the company has released documentation, tools for developing applications, a description of the main interface elements and sample programs. Concurrently with the launch of the beta version of HarmonyOS 2.0, a campaign to attract contributors for the operating system began.
Journalists clarify that the application programming interface (API) for more than 15 thousand programs is already available to developers. Specialists can start optimizing their products not only for smartphones, but also for other platforms – TVs, tablets, smart watches, on-board computers of cars. “Android killer”, as journalists call the OS, is still available to developers in China, but in the future, specialists from all over the world will be attracted to work on the operating system.
Starting December 16, developers will be able to test HarmonyOS 2.0 on the company’s flagship smartphones and tablets. These include the Huawei P40, Huawei P40 Pro, Huawei Mate 30, Huawei Mate 30 Pro, and Huawei MatePad Pro.
In November Huawei announced that in the future it will transfer more than 90 percent of its smartphones on their own OS. The HarmonyOS update channel will open to select users in January-February 2021. Work on the Huawei operating system began after the Chinese company was added to the US sanctions list in May 2019.
