The Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (AAHMS) has denied that the vaccine will be able to defeat the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic in 2021. Universal vaccinations will take a long time, so other measures to contain COVID-19 must be resorted to. This reported in a press release on MedicalXpress .
The AAHMS, which includes 400 leading researchers, has published a report outlining the way forward to respond to the spread of the infection. Although vaccines have been shown to be 90% effective, their production, transport and use will be difficult and costly, and vaccination of most of the population will not be possible until the end of next year.
Therefore, scientists believe that a whole range of measures must be followed to cope with the coronavirus. These include universal testing, self-isolation, quarantine, social distancing, wearing masks, as well as treatment and well-administered vaccinations.
Earlier, UK Health Minister Matthew Hancock reported that a new strain of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that is spreading faster than the original form.
