Representatives of the British intelligence service MI6 were embroiled in a scandal after they did not report Foreign Ministry countries that one of the secret agents of the department located abroad is out of control and may be involved in serious crimes. The supervisor indicated that they wanted to update the employee’s license to kill. Intelligence has allegedly approached British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab or his predecessor, Jeremy Hunt, to renew his mandate and grant him permission to allow agents working abroad to break the law without fear of prosecution in the UK.
The IPCO report clarified that six months before the issue of renewing the license was raised, intelligence officers contacted the agent. In the conversation, they identified a number of prohibitions, violation of which would lead to the termination of cooperation with him. And although MI6 had good reason to believe that the treaty was violated, the intelligence service nevertheless turned to the Foreign Ministry with a request to extend its powers. This circumstance could have gone unnoticed, but the supervisory authority drew attention to it.
The Guardian emphasizes that the details of the incident were not disclosed in the report, so it is not known whether the Minister approved the extension of the agent’s powers.
In August, it became known that secret agents of the British intelligence service MI6, 60 years later, will again license to kill the country’s enemies: it has been officially updated Annabel Goldie, Secretary of Defense of Great Britain, announced this.
It has been noted that such a license allows agents to avoid murder charges when they return to the UK at the conclusion of a mission. The newspaper also recalls that the last known case of the physical elimination of someone by the British special services outside of military conditions is a political assassination in Iran in 1961, and before that – the assassination of the President of the Congo Patrice Lumumba .
