In Minsk, a man called the police to punish his adult children, who painted the curtains in the apartment in white-red-white in support of the Belarusian protesters, reports the Tut.by portal.
The daughter of a Belarusian, Olga, told the newspaper about the incident in an interview. She said that she lives in an apartment with her father, brother, his wife and son. The woman did not name her parent, but said that he is the only one who supports the current President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko among all family members.
According to Olga, the incident with the police took place on December 6, when, under the windows of an apartment building where her family lives, OMON brutally detained several demonstrators. After the incident, the woman and her brother decided to express their support to the detainees and painted the curtains in one of the rooms in white-red-white. In response, the father decided to hand over his children to the security forces.
“He was probably completely enraged by everything that day. Suddenly, my father came to us and said:” I called the police. “At first we thought it was a joke, but when the doorbell rang and there were two policemen in civilian clothes, we were shocked, “Olga said. Those who arrived regarded the act of the household as a single picket. They photographed the curtains and promised to take the photos to court.
Later, the family managed to agree with the security forces to remove the pictures in exchange for ripping off the impromptu “flags” from the window. The father of the family was dissatisfied with this outcome. “I could still understand if he called my mother: they are divorced. But so that the son, daughter and grandson … We are very sorry,” the woman concluded.
Earlier in Minsk, the police initiated an administrative case against an 87-year-old pensioner who hung out a white-red-white flag on her balcony. An elderly woman faces up to 15 days of arrest. She compared the latest events in Belarus with the Great Patriotic War, which she found in childhood.
One of the symbols of protests in Belarus is the white-red-white banner (white “bel-chyrvona-bely syag”, BCHB). In 1991-1995, it was the state flag of the republic. In the 1995 referendum, the majority of Belarusians voted to replace it with a red-green one, reminiscent of the flag of the Belarusian SSR. President Alexander Lukashenko, who took the presidential oath of office in 1994 under the white-red-white flag, believes that he is directly related to the Nazis.
