The Constitutional Court of Moldova has approved the results of the presidential election, which was won by former Prime Minister Maia Sandu, reports ” Sputnik Moldova”.
“The results of the presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova, which took place on November 15, 2020, are being approved. The election of Maia Sandu as President of the Republic of Moldova is confirmed. This decision is final, cannot be appealed, and comes into force from the date of adoption,” announced the President of the Constitutional Court Domnica Manole.
At the same time, the representative of the incumbent president Igor Dodon Nikolai Fomov asked to postpone recognition mandate, since there is another case in court concerning a dispute between former candidates for the elections.
Earlier, the Constitutional Court suspended the amendments to the legislation that provided for the withdrawal of the Information Service and security out of the control of the president, which the parliamentary majority sought.
According to the Constitution of Moldova, the president is elected for a four-year term and takes office from the day of taking the oath. Sandu’s inauguration ceremony is scheduled for December 24. Accordingly, Dodon’s term expires on December 23.
The second round of the presidential elections in Moldova took place on November 15. Sandu received 57.75 percent of the vote, Dodon 42.25 percent.
