An accident occurs at a nuclear power plant in Finland

An accident occurred at the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant (NPP) in Finland, one of the plant’s power units had to be stopped. This is reported in a press release at website of the STUK Radiation and Nuclear Safety Agency.

“A serious malfunction occurred at the second reactor of the Olkiluoto NPP at 12:22 pm. It was presumably caused by an error in the water purification system for the reactor. The situation is now stable and the power unit is in a safe mode. No radiation was released,” – reports STUK.

An indicator on the agency’s website shows that the radiation situation remains normal. The authors of the press release assure that there is no threat to the population of nearby areas – it makes no sense even to drink tabletted iodine, which protects against small doses of radiation.
