On the Hawaiian island of Maui, a man died as a result of a shark attack, reports the Maui Now website.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 8, a few hours before the start of the Maui Pro professional surfer competition. A predatory fish attacked a 56-year-old man who was swimming on a surfboard 20 meters from the shore. The size of the shark can be judged by the 40-centimeter imprint of the teeth left on its board, writes the Daily Mail.
The victim survived and managed to get out of the water. Maui Pro’s security personnel gave him first aid prior to the arrival of the medics. The man was taken to the hospital and urgently operated on. After the operation, his condition was stable, but then began to deteriorate. On Wednesday, December 9, he passed away.
After a shark attack, the surrounding beaches were closed and the competition was postponed.
Previously it was reported that a shark bit the surfboard of a resident of the Australian settlement Cabarita Beach, NSW and broke a tooth. The girl herself was not hurt.
