A hunter from the US city of Elyria, Ohio, accidentally shot his son, mistaking him for a deer. Local newspaper The Columbus Dispatch reports.
December 2, 63-year-old Bradley Smith went with 28-year-old son Andrew and friends on the hunt. Everyone in the crowd, besides Andrew, were experienced hunters and had traveled to Delaware County regularly for the past 20 years to hunt white-tailed deer.
The shooting began at about 17:45 local time. As dusk fell, hunters were required to wear orange hunting clothes. Andrew forgot to wear bright clothes and went out into the open area.
Bradley, in the dark, mistook his son for a deer and fired. Andrew died instantly. No charges were brought against the hunter, since the murder was the fault of the victim himself, who violated the safety rules.
Earlier it was reported that the hunter mistook the man for a deer and shot him close Lake Red Lake in the US state of Minnesota. The sheriff’s spokesman noted that the victim was not wearing the typical fiery red or other highly visible clothing.
