Former Slovak police chief tried to commit suicide in a prison cell

The former head of the Slovak police, Milan Luchansky, detained on suspicion of corruption, tried to commit suicide in a prison cell. Refresher writes about this citing three sources.

The 51-year-old police general is now in the hospital.

Luchansky was detained as part of the “Judas” special operation, organized to search for corrupt officials among law enforcement officers. He is suspected of taking a bribe in the amount of 510 thousand euros.

In addition to Luchansky, a number of former and current security officials were also detained. All of them are being charged with corruption and malpractice.

Many Slovak high-ranking officials left their posts in 2018 amid pressure society and opposition after the high-profile murder of journalist Jan Kutsiak, who revealed the connections of local politicians with the Italian mafia. Then, among others, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Slovakia, Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kalinjak resigned. Later the post refused the Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico .
