Snow leopard first diagnosed with coronavirus

A snow leopard has been diagnosed with a coronavirus at the Louisville Zoo in the US state of Kentucky. This is reported on the zoo website .

“The Nisi snow leopard tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, a virus that causes COVID-19 in humans. The zoo is awaiting confirmation of the results of two other males, Kimti and Meru,” the publication said. The text also notes that such a case was identified for the first time.

The press service of the zoo explained that, according to their version, the cat became infected from one of the zoo employees, who had an asymptomatic infection. Currently, the leopards have been quarantined. It is noted that they are doing well, and the staff is closely monitoring their health.

Earlier in Ministry of Health warned that people with coronavirus can infect their pets. According to the specialist, cats and dogs are most susceptible to infection, while they transfer it easily. For other animals, the disease is not dangerous.
