Chapter MFA Belarus Vladimir Makey met with the heads of European diplomatic missions, Tut.by reports.
The event took place on December 9. It was attended by diplomats from European Union countries, as well as from Great Britain and the USA. As reported by the EU Delegation to Belarus, the parties discussed the issue of observance of fundamental human rights in the republic.
The diplomats were interested in whether the Belarusian authorities are going to fulfill international obligations in the field of rights and freedoms and the rule of law. They also discussed the possible return of the ambassadors of Lithuania and Poland to the country by the end of the year.
The Foreign Ministry of Belarus did not report on the conversation.
In Belarus, mass protests have been going on for four months due to the official results of the presidential elections, according to which the candidate for the sixth term Alexander Lukashenko received 80 percent of the votes.
The first actions were violently dispersed using special means. Thousands of people were detained, many spoke of torture and beatings in isolation wards. Several protesters are known to have died.
A case was initiated about an attempt to seize power. A number of opposition activists were arrested or fled the country.
