Yanukovych, due to failure to appear in court, appointed a free lawyer in Maidan case

The Pechersky District Court of Kiev has appointed the former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych a free lawyer for the case of the execution of Euromaidan. This was reported by RIA Novosti .

The lawyers of the former head of state did not appear in the courtroom at the appointed time, so the judge proposed to appoint a public defender for Yanukovych. It is noted that the court will consider the petition for re-election in absentia of a preventive measure in the form of arrest in the Maidan case, since the Kiev Court of Appeal previously canceled the arrest of Yanukovych in absentia.

December 8, Yanukovich himself expressed a desire to participate in the court session via video link in the case of the execution of Euromaidan. He appealed to the Pechersky District Court of Kiev “with a demand to ensure his personal participation by videoconference in the process of considering the petition of the Office of the Prosecutor General to choose a measure of restraint for him in the Maidan case.” The defense noted that earlier the Kiev Court of Appeal overturned the “illegal and unreasonable decision” to arrest Yanukovych, and now the prosecution demands to re-arrest him.
