Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias called Turkey a troublemaker in the region and a “travel agent for jihadists.” He stated this during a trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Greece, Cyprus and Jordan, reports the Ekathimerini portal.
According to the head of the department, Ankara acts outside the framework of international law and threatens to use force. So, Turkey threatened Greece with war if it acts in accordance with its sovereign right and expands its territorial waters up to 12 nautical miles, he recalled.
In addition, the minister noted that the country uses migrants as a policy tool. “[Turkey] is spreading propaganda and false news, exacerbating the security problem, transporting jihadists from Libya to the Caucasus – what I call a ‘jihadist travel agency’ – and thus creating threats to peace and stability in the region,” concluded Dendias.
He recalled that Athens has repeatedly called on Ankara to engage in constructive dialogue with all countries that share common values.
At the end of October, Greece decided to more than triple the length of the wall on the border with Turkey, completing a section with a length of about 26 kilometers. The construction will cost Greece about 63 million euros and should be completed by the end of April next year. Its goal is to prevent a massive violation of the border by migrants from the Turkish side. In addition, Athens will strengthen the entire border (with a total length of 192 kilometers) with additional surveillance cameras and mobile sirens to scare away migrants.
