PlayStation 5 Pro details revealed

Sony has patented a console with two video cards, reports GSM Arena.

The corresponding document discloses details regarding the set-top box having two GPUs. They can reportedly work either individually or together. In this case, the performance of the device increases and the overall load on the system decreases. Journalists believe that the published patent may indirectly confirm the fact that the engineers of the Japanese corporation are working on the PlayStation 5 Pro.

The document details the device of the set-top box with two graphics processors. The engineers emphasize that the implementation of the idea of a game console with two video cards is much more difficult than a device of a similar PC. In the process, a pair of GPUs will jointly process each frame and transmit it to the video output module. This could potentially provide higher quality VR gaming in 4K resolution at 120fps.

The patent also mentions the ability to run cloud games. The engineers clarify that the new set-top box should receive additional sensors, including NFC, GPS, infrared port and others.

The patent for the registration of the invention was filed in January 2019 and published in July 2020. In December, the document was released on the site FPO.

PlayStation 4 Pro – an improved version of PS4 – appeared three years after the release of the original console. The Pro model differed from the base console with more advanced hardware and 4K support.

At the end of November rumors appeared that Sony is working on a budget version of the PS5 … According to an insider, the release of the model, which should be called PlayStation 5 Lite, is scheduled for the second half of 2021. The original PS5 went on sale November 19th.
