Samsung invents a 600 megapixel smartphone camera

Samsung is working on a camera that will exceed the resolution of the human eye, reports PhoneArena.

The publication refers to the message of a well-known online insider Ice Universe, who published on the network a file from an internal presentation Korean company. It mentions a smartphone camera that will have a resolution of 600 megapixels. The corresponding sensor measures 1 / 0.57 inches and takes up about 12 percent of the smartphone’s area. On renderings of the invention, the camera consists of one large lens.

In the description of the device, the complexity of the technical implementation of such a development was noted. On the one hand, too high a pixel density will lead to an increase in the sensor size, on the other hand, a decrease in the size of individual pixels can lead to a decrease in image clarity. Experts have noticed that a sensor of this resolution will stick out from the body of the smartphone forward by about 22 millimeters. For comparison, the thickness of the case of the flagship Samsung Galaxy Note20 is only 8.3 millimeters.

Earlier, Samsung’s top manager Yongin Park said that the company intends to invent a camera whose resolution will be comparable to the number of points per unit area of the human eye. According to journalists, the resolution of the human eye is about 576 megapixels.

In October it became known that Samsung, together with scientists from Stanford University, invented display with record resolution. The resulting OLED panel has a pixel density (ppi, pixels per inch) of about 10,000 per inch. For comparison, the pixel density of displays on modern smartphones ranges from 400 to 500 pixels per inch.
