The coronavirus vaccination in Canada will be voluntary, but those who refuse the drug may face a number of restrictions, Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott warned. Her words are broadcast by the Global News TV company.
Announcing the province’s plans to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine, she stressed that the authorities cannot force anyone to undergo the procedure, and for their part can only ask Canadians to protect themselves and loved ones.
At the same time, she did not rule out that those who refused to take the drug may face a number of restrictions. “Vaccine refusal can lead to travel restrictions or other bans, it will all depend on people, they themselves have to make a choice based on what is most important to them,” Elliot added. The head of the department said that vaccination will protect not only the inhabitants of the country, but also its economy, educational system, as well as the healthcare system.
The minister’s words came after one of the local journalists asked during the event if in the future various institutions might require proof that a person had taken a drug for coronavirus.
In response to the question, Provincial Premier Doug Ford replied that it would be illegal to “force every person” to go through the procedure, however, as RT emphasized, Elliot’s subsequent remarks suggest that the government may resort to coercive tactics. /
The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau December 7 said that upon receipt approval from Ministry of Health , the first residents of the country will be vaccinated next week. Bloomberg reported that Ottawa purchased drugs for the procedure in the amount required for vaccination 154 million citizens, although the country is home to less than 40 million people.
