Virologist predicted spread of new types of coronavirus

Shi Zhengli, a researcher at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, predicted the spread of new types of coronavirus, according to the Guardian.

According to her, bats in the south and southwest of China are carriers of other coronavirus infections that can be transmitted to humans. She noted that these viruses, including those related to Sars-CoV-2, could have spread naturally outside the PRC, in the countries of South Asia.

Zhengli added that although bats are the primary carriers of coronaviruses, Sars-CoV-2 was transmitted first to the “intermediate” animal and then to the human.

In July, scientists from Singapore warned about the emergence of a new coronavirus in the next decade , which will again be transmitted from animal to human. This was announced by the head of the program for emerging infectious diseases at the National University of Singapore, Professor Wang Linfa. At the same time, the scientist admitted that there is uncertainty when exactly this will happen and how serious the outbreak will be.
