UN predicted that in 2021 the world will face a severe humanitarian crisis from World War II war. This was announced by the director of the UN World Food Program (WFP), David Beasley, quoted by RIA Novosti .
He stressed that next year will be “literally disastrous.” Beasley recalled that over the past four years, the number of people on the verge of starvation has increased from 80 to 135 million. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 270 million people are already suffering from hunger. In this regard, a WFP spokesman suggested that 2021 will be “even more disastrous”.
In his opinion, humanity will be able to overcome the humanitarian crisis if the UN collects enough money to fight it. “Next year we won’t be able to fund everything. So we must prioritize the issues of destabilization, hunger and migration,” Beasley said.
In June 2020, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the world is on the brink of the largest food crisis in 50 years. He called on governments around the world to take urgent action to prevent the harmful effects of the coronavirus pandemic and ensure food security.
