Police in the city of Manila (capital of the Philippines) decided to control the observance of the distance with rattan sticks, reports Reuters .

“The police and soldiers will help us conduct patrols to maintain our distance (…). They will have meter-long rattan sticks with them,” said the head of the COVID-19 task force, Lieutenant General Caesar Binag. He stressed that anyone who “shows stubbornness” will be beaten with truncheons.

According to the Lieutenant General, the country’s authorities decided to increase the number of employees law enforcement and soldiers in crowded places. In particular, we are talking about markets, shopping centers, churches and ports. Earlier it was revealed that since March, the authorities have recorded more than 700 thousand violations of restrictions imposed in connection with the pandemic.

In the Philippines, more than 436 thousand cases of COVID-19 infection have been identified. More than 8.5 thousand infected people died.
