Woman fell into depression and accumulated 27 tons of garbage at home

A resident of New York, USA, became depressed and accumulated 27 tons of garbage in her house, reports the Daily Star.

A woman in her 60s named Sylvie suffered from depression for years and did not let anyone into her home. She couldn’t find the strength to get out. As a result, 27 tons of garbage accumulated in her house, which blocked her access to the bathroom, kitchen, bedrooms and other areas of the house.

“The rooms were in a terrible state from floor to ceiling, in fact it was impossible to enter the house. I slept on a pile of rubbish and used the bathroom only if I climbed through the rubbish. I did not have a kitchen, as I was not in the haze. I didn’t have a tap, I couldn’t go to the refrigerator or freezer. I just sat in front of the house all day, “- said the American.

In fact, she lived in a small area on the stairs, surrounded by a two-meter heap of rubbish in three bedrooms, downstairs, in the hallway and in the kitchen. She kept food in the lobby.

The woman’s neighbors Craig and Sarah noticed that she never put out the trash to be taken away. They began to communicate with the woman and realized that she needed help. Sylvia told them about the state of her home and how she felt unnecessary and hopeless. In the end, she let Craig into the house in the hope that he could help.

Craig and Sarah began looking for people to help Sylvia and contacted the charity Community Bees. Volunteers from the organization Michaela and Pauline helped Sylvia remove the trash from the house and renovate the house. They helped Sylvia install new floorboards, an oven and a kitchen faucet.

“I don’t know how to thank Michaela and Paulina, and they still come to me and help me every week. We chat, laugh and enjoy each other’s company. You can just call them and they will come,” Sylvia said. Now the woman takes care of her mental well-being with the help of professionals. She visits the doctor and takes medication.

Earlier it was reported that the Spanish animal rights activists have achieved the eviction of a resident of Valencia from the apartment, where he lived with 110 cats. The man added one unsterilized pair of animals in his 100 square meter apartment, which have since begun to produce offspring.
