During self-isolation, the risk of contracting COVID-19 for members of the same family is higher than if they used public transport. This is stated in a study by Chinese scientists published in journal a> Science.
Experts analyzed data on 1178 patients in the Chinese province of Hunan. It borders on the province of Hubei, the administrative center of which, the city of Wuhan, was the source of the spread of the coronavirus at the end of 2019.
The lowest risk of contracting coronavirus was found in medical institutions where protective measures were followed. The level of risk increased depending on the proximity of contacts. It was lower in public transport, catering and entertainment places, but it turned out to be higher when communicating with a wide range of relatives, scientists have revealed.
The greatest risk of contracting COVID-19 is in a family whose members live together. The reason, perhaps, was that during self-isolation, they are in more contact with each other. Moreover, the longer members of the same family, in which there is a sick COVID-19, are together, the higher the risk of infection. Every day spent in the same household as an infected person increases the chance of transmission by 10 percent.
In October, shopping for food during the coronavirus pandemic recognized as more dangerous with the point of view of possible infection than traveling by plane. According to scientists, this is due to the operation of ventilation systems on board aircraft and air recirculation. They also reminded that it is important to use personal protective equipment.
