The Tokyo District Attorney’s Office asked Abe to appear for questioning. At the same time, NHK TV channel notes that the politician himself denied this information. According to him, this is the first time he hears that the police called him.

A case has already been opened against one of Abe’s secretaries. He is suspected of hiding information about part of the spending on organizing dinners for the prime minister’s supporters, which may indicate a violation of electoral legislation.

According to NHK, more than $ 190,000 was spent on the dinners that took place from 2015 to 2019. This exceeds the amount that Abe collected by almost 2.5 times. The prime minister himself said that all expenses on banquets were covered by their participants.

On June 18, the Japanese prosecutor’s office requested an arrest warrant for the former Minister of Justice of the country Katsuyuki Kawaii and his wife Anri. The spouses are accused of bribery of voters during the election campaign. During the investigation, about 100 people spoke about the bribes.
