Former French President and G7 founder Valerie Giscard d’Estaing has died due to the effects of the coronavirus. The politician named this cause of death by his family, reports RIA Novosti .
Earlier on December 3 it became known that Giscard d’Estaing died at the age of 94. In mid-November, he was hospitalized in a French hospital due to heart failure .
In September, the ex-president of the republic was already was hospitalized in the Paris hospital of Georges Pompidou from a mild lung infection. Then the doctors ruled out his infection with the coronavirus. A few days later, Giscard d’Estaing was discharged from the hospital.
Valerie Giscard d’Estaing was president of France in 1974-1981, replacing Georges Pompidou in this post. His successor was Francois Mitterrand .
