Man lost billions of because of cleaning lady who threw out old fishing rod

A drug dealer from Ireland lost six thousand bitcoins after a cleaning lady threw out access codes from his bitcoin wallets, according to Unilad.

Clifton Collins Dublin’s Clifton Collins amassed his fortune by growing and selling hemp. In terms of euros, his bitcoin savings are estimated at 53.6 million euros (4.8 billion rubles). The drug dealer feared that his money could be stolen, so he distributed the amount across 12 bitcoin wallets, wrote access codes to them on small pieces of paper and hid them in a stub on a fishing rod.

However, the cleaning lady working in the Irishman’s house did not know about his cache and threw out the old fishing rod along with other trash. Thus, access to money was lost forever.

Collins is currently serving a five-year prison sentence for drug trafficking, so he still couldn’t use the money. Bitcoin wallets have been confiscated by the Irish Bureau of Criminal Assets, but specialists cannot get access to the funds.

Although Collins’ home was broken into by unknown assailants after his arrest, and some of his accomplices were aware of the accounts, police believe the fishing rod was indeed thrown away by mistake. There has been no activity on the Irishman’s bitcoin wallets for several years, and workers at the dump where the drug dealer’s belongings were thrown claim to have seen a fishing rod. Waste from the landfill is sent abroad for incineration. Probably the pieces of paper with access codes have already been destroyed.

Collins himself admitted that the fortune is lost forever and considers what happened “a punishment for his own stupidity.”

Earlier it was reported that a family accidentally threw away several million rubles in Tyumen. The townspeople had to dig through 12 tons of waste to find their bag of cash.
