Ukraine: local deputies sang Hungarian anthem and came under investigation

Deputies Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People party Vitaly Bezgin and Alexander Kornienko asked the Office of the Prosecutor General and Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) to initiate an investigation into the possible the newly elected deputies of the village of Syurtovo, Transcarpathian region, crimes after they performed the hymn of Hungary. Interfax-Ukraine reports this.

“The media disseminated information that the newly elected deputies of the Syurtovskaya rural territorial community, solemnly opening the first plenary session of the first session of the newly elected Syurtovskaya village council (…) instead of the musical performance of the national anthem of Ukraine, they sang the national anthem of Hungary,” – said in the statement of the deputies.

In their opinion, law enforcement agencies are obliged to react to the situation, it is under control Head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Alexey Petrov . “We keep in touch with all bodies, in particular with the Security Service of Ukraine (…) The state must react toughly and immediately to such cases!” – emphasized Bezgin.

Earlier on December 1 it became known that the SBU held massive searches at a local charitable foundation, checking information about the involvement of Hungarians in activities aimed at violating state sovereignty. The actions of law enforcement officers angered the Hungarian authorities – they promised to raise the issue in NATO .

Relations between Ukraine and Hungary aggravated against the background of local elections in Transcarpathia. On October 26, the Ukrainian side banned entry to two high-ranking Hungarian officials because of campaigning in the region … Officially, their names were not disclosed, according to sources, they are politician Istvan Grezha and Hungarian Secretary of State, responsible for national policy in the government, Arpad Janos Potapi.

On election day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Hungary Peter Siyjarto Ukrainian Hungarians to vote for the party “Society of Hungarian Culture of Transcarpathia” and the current mayor of Beregovo, representative of the Hungarian community Zoltan Babiak. As a result, this political force won the elections.

In 2019, a scandal erupted between Ukraine and Hungary. A video from the Hungarian consulate in Transcarpathia appeared online, in which the consul handed out passports to local residents and swore allegiance to Hungary. Later it turned out that these were not passports, but a package of documents for obtaining citizenship. Ukraine expelled a diplomat from the country. Hungary responded in a mirror image.
