Merkel warns of third wave of coronavirus

German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced the risk of a third wave of coronavirus, reports Reuters .

According to her, the number of new cases of infection in Germany has stabilized after November 2, a “soft lockdown” was introduced in the country. However, officials warn that the situation could change at any moment. “In winter, we still have to be very, very attentive (…) Otherwise, we will have a new wave again,” said the chancellor.

Merkel also spoke out against easing restrictive measures for the Christmas holidays.

Earlier it was reported that the strict quarantine in Germany, which was originally in effect before end of November, will last until December 20 and will likely be subsequently extended until the end of January next year.

On November 2, Germany introduced a strict quarantine against the background of an increase in cases of coronavirus infection. By order of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, restaurants, bars, cinemas, entertainment venues, fitness clubs, swimming pools were closed, and the work of shops was also limited. Residents of the country are prohibited from gathering in companies of more than ten people in public places.
