A mysterious metal monument discovered this week in the desert of the American state of Utah has disappeared. The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
At the same time, the land use bureau declares that it did not remove the monument.
“We have received credible reports that an illegally installed structure called a ‘monolith’ has been removed … by an unknown party,” said Bureau spokeswoman Kimberly Finch, adding that the monolith was removed on the evening of November 27.
Reporters from The Salt Lake Tribune went to the site to confirm the absence of the object. “All that remains of the monolith is the metal triangle that used to be at the top of the structure, and a notch in the ground where the object was,” the newspaper notes.
According to a Colorado resident Riccardo Marino , he was heading for the monolith when saw the retreating truck. The car drove away from the place where the monument was located and transported a large rectangular object at about 22.40. When Marino arrived, the monument had already disappeared.

November 24, the monolith was discovered by employees of the wildlife resources department during the count of sheep in the southeast of the state. The height of the monument is about three meters, it has four sides. Its surface is shiny, but nothing is reflected in it.
