Man “came to life” in morgue during embalming

In Kenya, a man “came to life” in a morgue during a body embalming procedure, reports the New York Post citing The Standart.

According to the publication, 32-year-old Peter Keegen was hospitalized after fainting due to stomach problems. According to Brother Keegen, one of the nurses told him that he died long before arriving at the hospital. She gave a relative to sign the relevant documents, and Keegen was taken to the morgue.

Approximately four hours later, a morgue employee began the procedure and made an incision in Keegen’s leg, after which he screamed in pain. “I can’t believe what happened. How did they understand that I was dead? I didn’t even know where I was when I regained consciousness,” the man said.

Hospital doctor Gilbert Cheriot blamed Keegen’s relatives for the incident. According to him, they were in too much of a hurry to move him to the morgue and did not receive a death certificate. “The doctors asked Keegen’s relatives to give them some time, but they accused them of taking too much time and demanded to take him to the morgue,” Cheriot said.

He explained that there were many critically ill patients in the hospital, and doctors worked with them. Cheriot added that Keegen is responding well to treatment and will be discharged in the coming days.
