CIA employee killed in Africa after reports of US intention to withdraw troops

An employee of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was killed in a shootout in African Somalia, reports CNN citing a high-ranking source.

A CIA officer was injured during the operation. His identity has not been revealed, however, it is known that before working in intelligence, the man served in the main tactical unit of the Special Operations Forces of the US Navy.

CNN notes that the officer died shortly after the administration of the current President Donald Trump promised to withdraw troops from Somalia. It was about the withdrawal of more than 600 troops in the near future.

In early November, the media reported that US President Donald Trump is going to withdraw troops from Afghanistan before leaving office. It is believed that for this purpose he dismissed the head of the Pentagon Mark Esper, who opposed such a decision.
