Couple found treasure in their own attic and gave it to previous owners of house

A family from Columbia, South Carolina found antique coins worth tens of thousands of dollars in their own attic. Fox Business reports.

Two boxes that 46-year-old James Mumford and his wife Clarissa stumbled upon contained 46 Liberty gold dollars, minted between 1849 and 1907, and 18 Morgan silver dollars of 1879 -1904 years. The total value of the coins is estimated at 25 thousand dollars (1.9 million rubles).

The spouses assumed that the treasure was left by people who lived in the house before them. They contacted them and gave them the coins. “The previous owner is an elderly person,” said Clarissa Mumford. “So I think he accidentally hid the coins from himself. He even admitted that he had completely forgotten about them.”

In 2018 it was reported that an old porcelain teapot with a lost lid and a crack in the handle, bought by a Briton for £ 15, turned out to be a 17th-century piece from America’s first porcelain factory. Two years later, the find was auctioned for £ 575,000.
