The first case of COVID-19 infection on a mink farm was found in Lithuania. reports the Lithuanian State Veterinary and Food Service.
At a mink farm in the Jonava region, after the sudden death of 169 minks and analysis of their samples, it was confirmed that there were COVID-19 infected among the animals. Also, one of the workers on the farm became infected with the coronavirus. The study found that the coronavirus could have been transmitted to minks from agricultural workers.
About 40 minks kept in the infected premises of the farm will be destroyed. In total, there are about 60 thousand animals in this farm. Control over their condition is strengthened.
November 5 in Denmark decided to destroy all minks on fur farms to prevent the spread mutated coronavirus. In these animals, an infection was found that spreads to humans and contributes to the weakening of the ability to form antibodies. There are currently 12 registered people with this virus. Later it became known that the authorities had not yet made a final decision and were considering what to do with the animals.
The World Health Organization confirmed the susceptibility of minks to coronavirus, which makes them dangerous for people. Therefore, there is a risk that the population of these animals could facilitate transmission of the virus.
