Coronavirus turned out to be dangerous for teeth

Coronavirus can lead to complications of gum disease and even tooth loss, the New York Times reported, citing COVID-19 patients and specialists.

It turned out that some COVID-19 patients complained of tooth loss without bleeding. Others stated that their gums became sensitive and their teeth darken or decay. According to experts, dental problems existing in patients may worsen and be more dangerous during the recovery period after an infection.

President of the Angiogenesis Foundation, an organization that studies blood vessel diseases, William Lee noted that the coronavirus interacts with the cell receptor ACE2 and affects not only the lungs, but also the nerves and endothelium, as a result of which the blood vessels in the gums are affected .

At the same time, an orthopedic dentist from California, Michael Shearer, said that gum disease can be a manifestation of the body’s defense reaction to the penetration of the virus.

Earlier, the doctor-immunologist Vladislav Zhemchugov told that COVID- 19 on magnetic resonance imaging there is a clinical picture of multiple sclerosis, which, in turn, is characteristic of HIV and AIDS. According to him, patients with COVID-19 have memory lapses, lack of smell, hearing impairment and decreased sensitivity in different parts of the body.
