The UK government has decided to submit to parliament a draft of fines of up to $ 133,000 a day for installing Huawei equipment, writes Financial Times . The new measure could hit both the Chinese corporation and British enterprises.
Action will be taken against UK companies that violate the phasing out order for Huawei equipment. The goal of the new initiative is to thwart attempts by UK telecom giants to circumvent the law and use Huawei’s already purchased 5G equipment.
In July of this year, the British authorities came to the conclusion that further participation Huawei’s 5G infrastructure will endanger UK business and user safety. Because of this, national telecom operators have lost the opportunity to purchase equipment from a Chinese corporation. It is assumed that it will be possible to completely replace Huawei equipment by 2027.
Huawei came under sanctions last spring when the US President Donald Trump blacklisted the company. American companies are prohibited from doing business with Huawei. The telecom giant, under pressure from US sanctions, decided to sell its Honor division for $ 15.2 billion in November.
