The World Health Organization (WHO) acknowledged that vaccines are not fully capable stop the spread of coronavirus infection. This was stated by the director of the European regional office of the organization Hans Kluge , he is quoted by RIA Novosti .
“Although vaccines will not completely stop COVID-19 and will not be the answer to all our questions, they offer great hope in the war against this virus,” he said. The WHO representative noted that pharmaceutical developments and various technologies in the field of medicine open up new horizons for people.
Kluge added that he had heard good news about vaccines in recent weeks. He pointed to the “wealth of scientific and technical experience and knowledge” that Europe possesses. The WHO Director for Europe also stressed that the potential can only be realized if countries are ensured equitable access to vaccines.
Earlier, the head of WHO, Tedros Ghebreyesus warned about the risk that the poor population will not be able to get a vaccine against the coronavirus. According to him, there is now a huge risk that the poorest and most vulnerable people will “be trampled in pursuit of the vaccine.”
