The number of people detained at protests in Minsk exceeded 200 people. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the Minsk police.
According to law enforcement officers, the detainees are being checked within the framework of the current legislation. The police said that the protesters were repeatedly warned about the inadmissibility of illegal actions.
Earlier press secretary Ministry of Internal Affairs Belarus Olga Chemodanova told that law enforcement officers in Minsk used special means against citizens who” violated public order “and resisted the police.
The ministry explained that groups of protesters went out onto the road and blocked traffic. According to Chemodanova, citizens were repeatedly warned about the inadmissibility of disrupting public order.
The opposition urged its supporters to gather in the courtyards on November 22, and then move to the regional gathering points and march through the city together.
Protests in Belarus began at the end of August after the election of the head of state. The protesters demand the resignation of Alexander Lukashenko and the entire leadership of the country, new elections, as well as the termination violence by security officials and prosecution of those who violently dispersed the first post-election protests and tortured detainees.
