A way to recognize facial expressions under a protective mask

Body language expert Judi James has revealed a way to recognize facial expressions under a protective mask. The Daily Mail reports.

A study by the manufacturer of optical products Vision Direct showed that 76 percent of 2,000 respondents have difficulty reading the emotions of other people in personal protective equipment. More than 50 percent make a mistake when looking at their own expression in the mirror.

“Over the years, the key focus of communication has been the mouth. We have become accustomed to relying on lip movement as social shorthand to create rapport. Therefore, wearing masks on our faces causes anxiety and impairment of understanding each other’s emotions,” explained James. p >

The expert said that human eyes are much better at conveying and reading mood, emotions and non-verbal cues, so a look can tell a lot more than lips. So, wide-open eyes and a quick movement of the eyebrows up and down can be read as a “micro-handshake” and sympathy for the interlocutor. However, this look can also be regarded as flirting, since the gesture means: “I like what I see.”

In addition, frowning eyebrows, narrowed eyes and wrinkles on the bridge of the nose indicate that a person does not like something. Dilated pupils and a soft gaze indicate the sympathy of the interlocutor. A person’s fear, in turn, is indicated by the rounded shape of the eyes, the drooping outer corners of the eyebrows and fine wrinkles between and under them.

A slight tilt of the head to the side, extended in a line, slightly frowned eyebrows and a soft gaze indicate an expression of sympathy and empathy for the interlocutor, while an angry person is betrayed by drooping eyebrows, a hard look and a slightly tilted head forward.

Facial expression becomes asymmetrical when the other person is confused. Most often, in such a situation, one eyebrow rises, and the other drops down, or remains in a neutral position. However, one eye looks wrinkled while the other remains more rounded.

In August, specialists identified a way to prevent the appearance of wrinkles. According to the head of the anti-aging medicine clinic of the Medical Center Elena Malysheva Svetlana Zhaboeva, first of all you need moisturize the skin. It was found that the more soft and elastic it is, the later the wrinkles will appear. The dermatologist advised the thinner and drier a person’s skin, the earlier it is worth starting to use moisturizers and masks.
