Aleksievich disowned words about new Opposition Coordination Council

Nobel Prize Laureate in Literature Svetlana Aleksievich disowned the words about creating a new Coordination Council of the Belarusian opposition. This was reported by Radio Liberty.

“This is nonsense, this is not at all true. Many new people sign up for the Coordination Council, there is a governing body there. Our whole movement continues to work,” Aleksievich told Svoboda.

The press service of the Constitutional Court also denied information about the creation of a new structure. “The journalists misunderstood Svetlana’s words. No changes in the work of the coordinating council are planned in the near future, as well as the creation of new structures,” the council quotes a statement RIA Novosti .

Earlier it was reported that Aleksievich announced the creation of a new COP. The writer claimed that the names of its participants would be kept secret.

October 16 Investigative Committee Belarus said that he had received evidence that members of the Constitutional Court committed actions aimed” at destabilizing the socio-political, economic and informational situation ” and causing harm to the national security of Belarus.

All members of the council’s presidium are either arrested or are abroad. Aleksievich herself refused to return from Germany while the president remains in power Alexander Lukashenko .
