Estonia calls for sanctions against EU businesses over Lukashenka

Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu called for additional sanctions against companies European Union the power of the president Alexander Lukashenko in Belarus. Interfax – Zapad reports this.

“We call on the EU states to impose additional sanctions against Belarusian officials. Enterprises supporting the Lukashenka regime should be added to the sanctions list,” Reinsalu said at an unofficial online meeting of EU foreign ministers.

In Belarus, mass protests have been going on for more than three months over the official results of the presidential elections. Lukashenko, who has held this post since 1994, was declared the winner.

The demonstrators demand the president’s resignation, the release of political prisoners and a new vote.
