The rates for motorway tolls will increase on average by 4.75 % for private vehicles in 2023, the Ministry of Transport announced on Friday, December 2, while the government had asked, in a context of strong inflation, an effort to motorway companies.
The increase will apply from the 1 er February on the Vinci Autoroutes, APRR-AREA and SANEF SAPN networks. On the other hand, only on the APRR-AREA and SANEF SAPN networks, electric cars will be able to benefit from a reduction of 5 %. “This will be to cancel the rise in tolls for electric cars,” said the ministry.
This annual increase, lower than inflation, will be accompanied by an increase of 30 to 40 % of the discount granted to motorists who make the same round trip at least ten times a month. “This development is consistent with our priorities: in a context of inflation, limit price increases for daily life, protecting those who must use the car to go to work and encourage the ecological transition,” said the Minister of Transport, Clément Beaune, in a press release.
The rates for motorway tolls are reviewed each year in February, depending on an automatic formula linked to the inflation rate. In September, Clément Beaune had mentioned “unbearable” automatic increases for 2023, around 7 to 8 %, and requested a “reasonable increase”.
