The US Department of Justice is considering new rules for using messengers in companies so that they are not used to conceal corruption.
The Ministry of Justice’s interest in messengers was first declared at memorandum back in September. In his memorandum, the Ministry of Justice called on the US organization to introduce “effective policies and procedures that regulate the use of personal devices and third -party messaging platforms to ensure the safety of electronic data and business messages” so that they are available during criminal investigations.
Acting Deputy Assistant Prosecutor General Nicole M. Arznieri December 1 said that soon the law can include similar requirements for instant messengers. The law is the legal instrument of the United States to prevent bribery by citizens and organizations of foreign officials.
The Department considers whether the companies that allow employees to use messaging platforms are constantly evaluating their policy in accordance with their legal obligations, including those related to information storage, ”she added.
Probably, the rules prohibiting the “improper deletion of business documentation” and requiring “proper control” of personal communications and messaging of messages are applied to messengers. Argentrya did not specify what rules the Ministry of Justice will require. But she promised that they would be “clear and predictable.”
Thus, the Ministry of Justice gave organizations an indication “ensure proper management and preservation of content created by personnel using instant messengers”.
