Police and gendarmerie services identified 208,000 victims of domestic violence in 2021, an increase of 21 % compared to 2020, according to Data from the Statistical Service of the Ministry of the Interior (SSMSI), made public Thursday December 15.
According to the study, published annually by the ministry, 89 % of persons implicated in 2021 for violence on their partner or ex-partner are men. “The number of recordings has practically doubled since 2016, in a context of speech release and improving the conditions of reception of the victims by the police and gendarmerie services,” notes the SSMSI, which also notes that ” The share of ancient facts (clerk before their recording year) increased from 18 % in 2016 to 28 % in 2021 “.
Two thirds of these violence are physical violence, a little less than a third are psychological or verbal violence, notes the SSMSI, which adds that the registered domestic sexual violence is very infrequent.
