The Association of Internet trade, whose members are Amazon, Google, Meta*, Tiktok and Twitter, sued the state of California to annul the recently signed law aimed at protecting children on the Internet, requiring all websites for checking the age of all Users.
in a> claims that the law adopted in the state ( CALIFENIA-APPROPROPROPROPROPROPRITE ACTE ACT , AB 2273), violates the current federal law, controlling freedom of speech on the Internet and demanding that “online service providers act as Internet certificates by order of the state”.
According to the claim, AB 2273 also contradicts the existing federal law on the protection of children’s confidentiality on the Internet (COPPA) and violates the fourth amendment, forcing sites to reveal private internal correspondence.
Netchoice, an industry group that suits the state due to the new law, claims that AB 2273 actually causes more harm than the benefits for the confidentiality of children, forcing service providers to determine which users are younger than 18 years of age.
by words Vice President and Chief Netchoice Carls Sabo, forcing all websites to track and store information about both children and adults, California risks closing the Internet and jeopardizing the digital safety of all Americans, especially children.
According to the claim, “the definition of age is impossible.” And there are workarounds for age -based testing technologies that create data safety problems and confidentiality.
“Any method related to the submission of official documents increases the risk that these documents can be stolen,” the court documents said. “More invasive methods of testing age, such as artificial intelligence, person analysis or technology of faces, are far from reliable and create their own problems with transparency, safety and confidentiality.”
The Governor of California Gavin News in September signed the AB 2273 Law, obliging applications and sites to install protective mechanisms for users under 18 years of age. Also, Internet companies should minimize the harm that their content can cause minors.
