Emergency Situations Management under the Governor of California confirmed that the finance department suffered from a cyberurine, but did not report too much details. Hacking was found thanks to state partners and federal security services. As officials say, IB-specialists are working on evaluating and detecting possible vulnerabilities and mitigating the consequences of cyber attacks.
It is unclear what damage was caused by hackers and how they managed to penetrate the systems of the department. Only one thing is known – state funds did not suffer from the attack.
But to all official statements, Lockbit added the department to the list of her victims and reported that they managed to kidnap the databases, confidential data, financial and IT documents. As evidence of their words, hackers published several screenshots of files that were stolen from the systems of the California Finance Department.
Hackers also said that they managed to kidnap more than 246,000 files or 75.3 GB of data. Now the group has put the department on the counter – the ransom should be paid until December 24, otherwise all the stolen data will be merged into the network.
