The complete identification of the ten victims who died in the fire of a building in Vaulx-en-Velin (Rhône) on the night of Thursday to Friday revealed that they were six adults and four children , we learned Sunday December 18 from the Lyon prosecution. “We confirm that we have among the ten victims who died four children and six adults,” said the prosecution on Sunday morning. The latter added that no arrest had taken place since the opening of the investigation for “voluntary degradation by fire which led to death”. “The investigation is actively continuing,” he concluded.
Saturday evening, the Lyonnais prosecutor’s office announced, in a statement, the identification of all the deceased victims, without more precision. He had added that the expertise had still not had a license “to determine whether the origin of the fire [was] voluntary or accidental”. “No trace of flammable product was detected in the samples taken from the scene of the disaster,” he said.
Earlier in the afternoon on Saturday, some six hundred people gathered on the forecourt of the town hall of Vaulx-en-Velin, to pay tribute to the victims.
The fire occurred at 3 a.m. Friday in a seven -story building, located in a popular district in full urban renovation.
The fire encouraged residents to rush into the void, a woman who even threw her son from the fourth floor to save her life, before jumping herself from her balcony, according to testimonies collected by the agency France-Presse.
