Scott Graham, Associate Professor of the Department of Rhetoric and Letters of the University of Texas in Austin, instructed his students to write an essay out of 2200 words using AI algorithms. Students could freely edit their work, the only rule was that most of the essays should be generated by artificial intelligence.
Essays written using AI received an assessment of 3 and 3-. For a higher score, students need to manually rewrite most of the essays or indicate more accurate tips.
According to the assistant professor, writing texts with the help of AI is not so different from the letter “manually.” The main letters of the letter that Graham teaches mainly arise after the initial sketch.
“I think that people become really talented writers in the process of editing. Therefore, I am optimistic about AI, and I think that it will help to better teach the revision and editing of texts,” the assistant professor says.
Letter, Anna Mills, expressed her concern about the fact that AI reduces the need of people to think on their own. She also, along with a group of scientists, announced the need to introduce rules and policies for using AI in training. According to her, artificial intelligence can create a variety of masterpieces, from novels to academic articles, and he can influence people’s thoughts or even change them. “This is a huge force, and it is very dangerous.”
No matter what policy universities can accept in the future, AI provides teachers with the opportunity to improve education now. Teachers should adapt to technologies if they want to remain relevant, and stimulate students to study and think on their own using or without computers.
