The French CNIL regulator was fined Microsoft for 60 million euros for violations regarding the use of COOKIE files by its Bing search service. This was reported by the press service of the department.
The French regulator said that after the investigation it was established that “when users visited this site, cookies were posted on their terminals without their consent, while these cookies were used, including for advertising purposes.” He also “found that there was no button to refuse to store cookies as easy as accepting them.”
Microsoft corporations gave three months to make changes to the practice of using cookies. In case of violation of the deadlines for each day of the delay, Microsoft will pay a fine of 60 thousand euros.
It was reported that the fine was issued by Microsoft in Ireland, where the company has a European base.
Earlier this year, other American IT giants were fined in France for violations in the policy of using cookies. So, Google paid a record 150 million euros, and Meta (recognized in Russia as an extremist organization and is prohibited) – 60 million euros.
