The incident occurred on November 24 at 12:40 in the Yerba-Buen tunnel (San Francisco). Tesla Model S, reportedly, sharply dropped the speed from 88 km/h to 32 km/h, which led to the collision of the neighboring 7 cars. 9 people were injured, one of them required hospitalization.
The driver claims that the car was in “complete autonomous driving” during the accident. The police have yet to find out whether the autopilot was really turned on.
Police and investigators of the National Road Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigate the incident, as a result of which 2 lanes of the bridge were blocked for several hours and 4 ambulances were required to transport the victims.
Tesla promised to conduct a full internal investigation and provide a report.
